Antonija Balić Šimrak was born on August 24, 1969 in Patna, India. Since 1976 she has been living in Zagreb. In 1983 she enrolled the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb and graduated from Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts – Sculpture Department in 1992. In 2017 she defended a doctoral dissertation entitled Soft Sculpture and its Anthropomorphical Transformation at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb. Since 2009 she has been employed at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb, first as an assistant professor and since October 2013 as an associate professor.
She has exhibited at fifteen independent and numerous group exhibitions both at home and abroad, winning several awards and recognitions for her works of art. Her works are in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rijeka, the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, Koprivnica Museum, Art Gallery of the City of Slavonski Brod, City Assembly of Zagreb, Collection of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Bozidar Jakac Gallery in Kostanjevica on Krka (Slovenia). She is a member of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists and Croatian Association of Researchers in Children’s Literature.
